What is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded program under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) designed to support schools with high percentages of students from low-income families. This funding allows JDD to provide additional instructional support, resources, and programs that help close achievement gaps and ensure all students meet grade-level standards.

Title I funding supports things like additional instructional staff, academic intervention programs, professional development for teachers, and family engagement initiatives.

What Title I Means for Your Child

As a Title I school, JDD is able to offer support that goes beyond the regular classroom, including targeted academic interventions through our Student Support Team (SST) and Response to Intervention (RTI) process, standards-based instruction supported by additional resources and technology, school counseling services that address academic, personal, and social development, and free breakfast and lunch for all students through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).

Parent & Family Engagement

Parent involvement is a required and essential part of Title I. At JDD, families are encouraged to be active partners in their child's education. Opportunities to get involved include the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), School Council meetings held quarterly, parent-teacher conferences scheduled throughout the year, Lunch on the Lawn and other family events, and providing feedback through parent surveys.

JDD's Parent & Family Engagement Policy outlines how the school and families work together to support student achievement.

Your Right to Know

As a parent of a student in a Title I school, you have the right to request information about the professional qualifications of your child's teacher and paraprofessional, including whether the teacher has met state licensing requirements, whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status, whether the teacher is teaching in their field of certification, and the qualifications of any paraprofessional providing services to your child.

To request this information, contact Principal Charleen Norfleet at (912) 537-3421 or
Tammy McFadden at (912) 537-3088 ext. 2011.

School-Parent Compact

The JDD School–Parent Compact is a shared agreement between the school, parents, and students that outlines how each party contributes to student success. The compact describes the school’s responsibility to provide high-quality instruction, the parent’s role in supporting learning at home and staying engaged, and the student's commitment to doing their best every day.

The compact is reviewed and updated annually with input from parents and staff.
